The Firm

Schmitz & Partner was founded in Frankfurt/Main in the summer of 2009 as a spin-off of the litigation/dispute resolution practice of a leading international law firm. The two founding partners, Dr. Bernd-Wilhelm Schmitz and Stephan Kleemann, have worked together since 1997 and jointly represent more than 30 years of experience in conducting national and international lawsuits and arbitration proceedings, with an emphasis on economic law. Currently the firm has four partners.

Schmitz & Partner advises and represents companies and entrepreneurs in all stages of dispute resolution in and out of court. Based on the many years in practice of our founding partners in international law firms Schmitz & Partner brings along substantial experience, which is essential when pursuing complex, cross-border disputes and achieving an economical and ideal solution.

Schmitz & Partner possesses a vast and well-proven network, nationally and internationally. We have excellent contacts to domestic and foreign law firms, auditors, tax accountants, financial experts, management consultants and communications experts. We consult these experts as circumstances warrant, but only in accordance with prior client consent.

We represent not only international financial institutions and investors, but also listed and medium-sized companies. We conduct outstanding civil and arbitration proceedings. Inter alia, we are representing a DAX-listed company in the largest prospectus liability lawsuit in the history of German law.

Our independence enables us to advise and represent clients in disputes in which major national and international law firms often cannot appear due to existing conflicts, e.g. with regard to former transaction related work. Schmitz & Partner is therefore a sought after contact partner for conflicted law firms. Moreover we maintain a strong relationship with international law firms which do not offer dispute resolution capabilities in Germany.
